Jason is an entrepreneurial, transactional and regulatory lawyer with 15 years’ professional experience working across private practice, business and government.
Jason’s extensive corporate and commercial law experience includes advising individuals, companies and institutions in numerous sectors, from the founders of start-ups and private and institutional investors to the largest of public companies, on matters ranging from incorporation, through every stage of private and public equity capital raising, to joint ventures, acquisitions (including European cross-border M&A), investments and the negotiation and drafting of commercial agreements. The clients he has advised include BT, Carlyle, Kcom, UBM, Arabsat, Thuraya, Starhub and ST Telemedia.
Jason’s main interest lies in the TMT sector, with a focus on telecommunications that has also seen him advise and/or work with national regulatory authorities, telecommunications ministries, the European Commission and telcos across Europe, the Middle-East and Asia on the gamut of sector-specific regulatory issues, including with respect to the formulation of policy.
As group Head of Regulatory Affairs for Inquam/Zapp, the pan-European operating subsidiary of Fortune 500 wireless technology company, Qualcomm, Jason successfully devised and led its landmark strategic initiative to win pan-European regulatory approval for the use of Qualcomm's CDMA2000 mobile communications technology in the 450 MHz band, overcoming significant and well-defended market-entry barriers to do so. In the process, Jason actively and extensively engaged with the key European telecommunications policy-making institutions (CEPT, the European Commission and ETSI) and most NRAs across Europe, procuring public mobile telecoms licences and frequency spectrum in numerous European countries as well as ensuring the award of spectrum for CDMA450 in many more markets through lobbying and drafting consultation responses on behalf of numerous interested parties.
Since 2006, as well as continuing to advise on legal matters as a consultant, Jason has also been running his own innovative, start-up legal technology and services business.
