Biog

Julian has been a consultant with Halebury since 2007. Prior to joining Halebury, Julian was engaged as senior employment counsel for Nortel Networks, a global multinational telecoms/technology company for 6 years and prior to that was a partner in Central London. Julian is known for a positive "can-do" approach to employment issues, with an emphasis on assisting companies to implement business plans effectively and responsibly.

Julian takes a commercial approach to risk, balancing commercial objectives and legal compliance. He regularly advises on the employment aspects of large commercial transactions and projects as well as assisting with day to day issue management, policy drafting and implementation.

RECENT ACTIVITY

• Advising regarding successful bid for public procurement outsourcing contract from former UK public utility company.
• Assisting with employee issues associated with wind-down of activities of Middle East legal/Africa entities (including Egypt, Dubai, Tunisia & Saudi Arabia).Assisting with UK issue management including issues relating to misconduct, redundancy, contract disputes , discrimination claims and breach of restrictive covenants.
• Creating and implementing global e-monitoring policy.
• Advising on employment issues connected with multi-million £ "material" transaction for sale of part of global business. Impact to >1500 employees spread across 10 jurisdictions globally. Including advising on employee relations and consultation issues and drafting and negotiating sale agreement provisions relating to employees in multiple jurisdictions.
• Reviewing and revising global employee relocation, expatriation and localisation policies and procedures.
• Revising UK flexible benefits scheme and scheme rules including review of all UK employee benefits documents.
• Training senior staff and managers on legal issues regarding managing employees and business ethics.
• Coordinating employment advice and employee strategy for global in-sourcing of payroll activities.
