Advising a major telecoms and media company on a high value infrastructure project
Virgin Media required a senior telecoms lawyer to work on a high value infrastructure project.
The Halebury lawyer was appointed to advise on all legal aspects of Virgin Media’s build contracts in connection with “Project Lightning”, the single largest investment in broadband digital infrastructure in the UK for more than a decade. The build programme allows Virgin Media to extend its fibre network to approximately four million additional premises over a five year period. It will increase the number of homes and businesses to which Virgin Media can offer services by almost a third from around half of the country today to nearly 17 million premises by 2020. In carrying out the project, the Halebury lawyer took the lead legal role in advising on, drafting, negotiating and completing a series of large scale Civil Works and related infrastructure services agreements relating to the expansion of the Virgin Media broadband network in the UK (at least one of which involved a spend of £250 million).
Since completion and signature of the main deal documents, the same Halebury lawyer has been retained as lead lawyer to advise on on-going matters relating to the project which is likely to run for two years.
