What do you focus on for your clients

I am a senior commercial lawyer with over 20 years’ experience across a variety of industries, with a particular emphasis on technology, media and infrastructure projects. I am used to working across different businesses at all levels and across multiple jurisdictions. I am experienced in drafting and negotiating complex contracts, structuring and managing legal teams and acting as trusted advisor at board level.

Tell us about your professional background

I trained at City firm Charles Russell (now Charles Russell Speechly) and qualified into their TMT team. From there I made the move in house, first to Virgin Media as a commercial lawyer and then to Arqiva, where I was Head of Legal for the Broadcast and Media division between 2008 and 2012 with legal oversight of Arqiva’s £600m TV, radio and satellite transmission businesses in the UK, USA, France and Italy. Whilst at Halebury, and in addition to my advisory work, I have undertaken several senior legal counsel placements at various clients including Ericsson, British Telecommunications Plc, and Encompass Digital Media Inc.

Tell us a bit about your working style and other interests

I would describe myself as very commercial, pragmatic, versatile and with good EQ/people skills. I enjoy the breadth and variety of my clients who range from technology start-ups to multi-national corporations and charities. A lawyer’s competence is a given, but I also believe trust, character and chemistry are as essential to any good lawyer/ client relationship. Outside of my work at Halebury, I run a photography business ( and am a keen amateur film maker. I also advise a renewable energy fund which backs power projects in East Africa and work with two charitable NGOs based in Ethiopia. I live in London, am married with two children and a dog, Otto.

I have known and worked with Alex for many years, and most recently in 2015 where he provided extensive commercial counsel, outstanding technical skills and a thorough understanding of the legal issues. As always Alex excelled at proactive strategic thinking, clarity of communication and business focussed advice. It always helps that he is a pleasure to work with and a real team player.
