What do you focus on for your clients

I focus on general commercial advice in the technology sectors and am generally comfortable to turn my skills to any contract issues. I have built up specialisms over the past 5 years within start-ups and franchising.

Tell us about your professional background

Prior to working at Halebury, I was an assistant solicitor working in the IP team at Berwin Leighton Paisner and then joined Lawyers on Demand when that first launched.

Tell us a bit about your working style and other interests 

I co-founded the family club franchise network, Busylizzy, so spend a few hours a week dealing with any legal issues raised as a result of growing the network (we currently have 20 franchisees across the South with plans to open 10 more over the next 2 years). As a result of running a business, my legal advice leans towards finding pragmatic solutions for my clients and being a sounding board for new initiatives. I’m not a fan of using ten words when one will do and enjoy getting under the bonnet of my clients’ businesses in order to provide more relevant advice.

As a small-business start-up, setting up a new breed of marketing agency, we contacted Sarah Batterbury with a list of legal concerns and questions. Much of what we are going to be introducing has not been done before, but Sarah took the time to understand the concept, was very encouraging about the business but also understood the legal ramifications. She handled all our enquiries efficiently, asking pertinent questions to both ensure we got the best out of our time with her but also that the business abided by the law. Issues Sarah addressed on our behalf included drafting a privacy policy and terms & conditions, writing a shareholders agreement, advising on issues surrounding data protection and domain transfer.
